The Bihar government on Tuesday increased the dearness allowances of state govenment employees by 6 per cent.

PATNA: The Bihar government on Tuesday increased the dearness allowances of state govenment employees by 6 per cent.

A cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar decided to hike the DA from the present 41 per cent to 47 per cent, bringing at par with central government employees.

The cabinet also decided that to counter insurgency and activities of Maoists, Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) be allowed to use their forces within five kilometres of porous Indo-Nepal border in the state, Principal Secretary (Cabinet and Coordination) Girish Shanker told reporters.

The cabinet also extended the term of judicial commission constituted to investigate the March 16, 2007 police firing till June 2008.

The government had formed a judicial commission headed by district and sessions judge of Begusarai with a directive to submit the report within a month.

The Commission, however sought extension of its term till June 2008, to which the government agreed, Shanker said.
