CVC cautions vigilance officers in banks from seeking favours

NEW DELHI: In a strict missive, the Central Vigilance Commission has asked chief vigilance officers in banks and other departments to mind their conduct and refrain from seeking "extra facilities or benefits" from the organisations they are working in.

The move came after the anti-corruption watchdog received references on the functioning of CVOs, who act as extended arm of the Commission to carry out vigilance related works, in the matters of availing perks from the organisations they are working in.

"The Commission would like to emphasise that CVOs functioning in bank and other organisations need to show exemplary conduct in their functioning, including while availing perks from the organisation where they are functioning as CVO," a directive issued by the CVC said.

The conduct of highest standard is imperative on the part of CVOs as the independence of their functioning and vigilance administration will be adversely affected if they seek favours for themselves from the organisation where they are working as CVO, it said.

"The Commission would, therefore, advise all CVOs to be prudent and refrain from availing any extra facilities or benefits beyond their eligibility from the managements of the organisations they are working in," the directive said.

The CVC has already written to banks and other organisations to ensure timely rotation of officers working at sensitive posts, considered prone to corruption.
