NEW DELHI: To spread more awareness about competition norms, fair trade watchdog CCI is looking to conduct advocacy programmes for diverse groups, including sports federations and resident welfare associations.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) keeps a tab on anti-competitive business ways across sectors in the market place.

As part of efforts to expand its outreach, the watchdog has asked organisations and institutions to get in touch with it for conducting competition advocacy events.

Whether you are a quality control organisation, standard setting organisation, sports federations, co-operative society or federation, or a resident welfare association, competition law has importance for all, according to a CCI communication.

In recent times, there have been many instances of entities and groupings found violating fair trade norms. The Commission has slapped penalties besides directing concerned parties to cease and desist from anti-competitive practices in many cases.

The regulator noted that competition law, with its overarching applicability, covers the entire economic spectrum.

Under Competition Act, Section 49 mandates the Commission to carry out advocacy efforts through various measures.

"It is a deliberate process of outreach that would influence the economic behaviour of enterprises, elicit support for the economic principles of competition and convince stakeholders about the innate advantages of competition regime," the communication said.

For advocacy events, the Commission is ready to provide resource persons.
