Power Ministry has constituted a standing committee to chalk out a 15-year perspective plan for research and development activities in the sector.

NEW DELHI: Power Ministry has constituted a standing committee to chalk out a 15-year perspective plan for research and development activities in the sector.
Addressing members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power, Power Minister Ananth Geete informed that the committee would be headed by Chairman of Central Electricity Authority.
The Ministry has also proposed to give away incentives in the form of awards and prizes to promote R&D in the sector.
Geete said the cost of not taking up such works would cost the economy around Rs 5,050 crore annually, adding that one per cent improvement in the performance by hydel power projects would lead to an additional savings of 800 MUs.
One per cent reduction in transmission and distribution losses would save Rs 1,250 crore, he added.
