Coal crisis to end in 3 months, CIL ready with new R&R policy
Optimistic of ending the coal crisis in three months, Coal India Ltd said its new resettlement and rehabilitaion (R&R) policy with focus on community engagement would be approved soon.

BHUBANESWAR: Optimistic of ending the coal crisis in three months, Coal India Ltd (CIL) on Thursday said its new resettlement and rehabilitaion (R&R) policy with focus on community engagement would be approved soon.
''We will push the maximum quantity of coal to every nook and corner of the country so that the crisis is ver soon. It will take three months time to overcome the crisis,'' CIL chairman Partha S Bhattacharjee said.
Bhattacharjee who met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here to seek Orissa government's cooperation to enable Mahanadi Coalfiled Ltd (MCL) to meet its target of producing 100 mt of coal in 2008-09, said CIL in its board meeting would give the final touch to its new R&R policy.
Describing the proposed R&R policy as 'unique', he said the new policy would focus on the overall development of the community instead of only prviding jobs to the affected people and the land oustees.
''The new policy intends to change the living standard of people by increasing their employbility,'' he said adding affected people would become stakeholders in development.
The proposed policy, he said, would be better than both the national R & R policy and that of the Orissa government. ''Ours will be more than either of theirs.''
Citing the instance of the company's Raj Mahal project in Jharkhand, the CIL chairman said MCL was planning to set up 'first rate' rehabilitation centres in Orissa and in other parts of the country.
