CITU seeks revival of 8 public sector cos in WB
Left-backed Centre of Indian Trade Unions has sought revival of eight public sector units in West Bengal.
In a letter to Minister of State for Heavy Industry and Public Entreprises Santosh Mohan Deb, CITU said the Central government has already closed down 12 CPSUs such as Bharat Brakes and Valves, Tyre Corporation and Haldia Fertiliser.
Besides, voluntary retirement scheme has also been enforced in coal, steel and other industries resulting in loss of employment to nearly one lakh people, it said.
This had an adverse effect on the economy of the state, it said, and suggested revival of eight sick public sector units. Three of these units - Brathwite, Burn Standard (Howrah) and Burn Standard (Burnpur) could be treated as captive units of Railways for wagon production, it suggested.
Other companies in the list included Andrew Yule & Co Ltd, Hindustan Cables, RIC, BOGL and Tyre Corporation (Kankinara Unit).
