CII calls for robust industrial policy
Visionary leadership, good governance, holistic approach and skilled human resource are critical enablers to put the industry in Punjab on a growth trajectory, industry body CII said on Wednesday.
CII Chairman (Punjab State Council) and Abhishek Industries Managing Director Rajinder Gupta said the state government should think radically and 'out of the box' and the policy programmes and initiatives should be tangible and sustainable.
Gupta was interacting with Isher Judge Ahluwalia, an economist engaged as lead consultant by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for Punjab.
The interaction was organised by Udyog Sahayak, Department of Industries on behalf of Punjab government, to seek suggestions for revival and up-gradation through optimum utilisation of resources, a CII release said.
Responding to industry's concerns Ahluwalia said: "It is an irony that the breadbasket of India is now generating growth rates below the country average coupled with a budget deficit that has been growing at a steady rate post 1981."
She further stated the government is contemplating a long-term and multi-pronged strategy and the new industrial policy would have a global vision.
