The concept of scientific development should be firmly implemented and the focus of future economic work should be put on adjustment of the economic structure, the change of the economic growth mode, reform deepening and promotion of balanced development, Hu was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
The economic performance in the second half of 2005 is of great importance, the President said, because it relates to not only the goal of economic and social development for the whole year, but also the beginning of the 11th Five-Year (2006-2010) Plan period.
Hu made the remarks at a seminar on Tuesday by the Communist Party of China where economists and scholars put forward advice on the current economic situation.
He called for more effort to build a resources-efficient society, saying reforms on state-owned enterprises, taxation, finance, pricing and administrative systems should be boosted.
China's export structure should be optimised, Hu said, calling for viable solutions to unemployment, poverty and industrial security issue.
The country would improve various macro-control measures, making modest adjustments on some of them so as to push forward the economy in an expected direction, he said, putting priority on rural production and encouraging technical innovation, the report said.
