While some industry chambers have refrained from commenting on the first draft of the common minimum programme released yesterday, Assocham has supported the decision not to privatise the profit making PSUs.
In a statement issued today, CII president Anand Mahindra said, “CII has had the privilege of working closely with Mr Singh when, as the finance minister, he was spearheading path-breaking economic reforms.
Under his leadership the process of economic reforms would be sustained and the country would be able to grow at an annual rate of 7-8%.� On the ministry, he added, that the composition reflected a fine blend of experience and youth, with many leaders having a track-record of successful performance in the past in different capacities.
Ficci president Yogendra Kumar Modi, “The industry is happy and confident that Mr Manmohan Singh and his council of ministers will deepen and broaden the reforms agenda and will also focus on governance and implementation issues drawing from their wealth of experience.�
Assocham chief Mahendra K Sanghi said that the emphasis on urban-rural connectivity by extending support to the agri-sector will create conducive environment for enhancing purchasing power in the rural sector, create agri-entrepreneurship class and will give impetus to industrial growth.
He added that the implementation of value added tax(VAT) system will remove artificial barriers and shall facilitate creation of a common market. Supporting the government’s decision not to privatise profit making PSUs, he added that the government should give autonomous powers to make them competitive globally.
