Centre to give priority to SSI

As per the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bill, already presented on the floor of house, several facilities have been planned to promote the small scale industries of the country.

JALANDHAR: The union government was determind to promote small scale industry sector for which several steps were taken in the union budget 2005-06, Additional Secretary Development Commissioner (SSI) Satyananda Mishra said on Saturday.

Addressing a seminar organised by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and Central Institute of Hand Tools, Mishra said that as per the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bill, already presented on the floor of house, several facilities have been planned to promote the small scale industries of the country.

He further added that small scale industry turnover eligibility limit for availing general SSI excise exemption has been enhanced from Rs three crore to four crore and SSI units will have now two options - either full exemption on the first clearance of Rs one crore or normal duty on the first clearance of Rs one crore with cenvat credit.
