TAWANG (ARUNCHAL PRADESH): With an eye on boosting tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, the centre is mulling scrapping of the Restricted Area Permit system in the state.

Inaugurating the seventh Buddha Mahotsav here yesterday, Union minister of state for Commerce and Industry, Jairam Ramesh said, the Restricted Area Permit system is being reviewed by the Centre in view of the importance of promoting tourism in the state.

"Officials would be deputed to study and submit a feasibility report on trade between Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan in Dudungar, Namtsering and Bletting along the border, and the Centre would give all possible support for opening trade in Bumla and Pangsau passes," he said.

Ramesh assured the Centre's help in the establishment of arts, commerce, IT, and engineering colleges in Tawang during the next two years.

"Arunachal Pradesh has tremendous potential particularly in the hydro-power sector. It is projected to make annual revenue of Rs 6000 crore from hydro-electric projects by 2014-2015," Ramesh said while elaborating the development prospects of the state.

Speaking on the occasion chief minister Dorjee Khandu expressed his hope that the Centre would favourably consider his request for Rs 2,390 crore as one-time grant for the completion of the states pending projects.
