NEW DELHI: Aiming at improving the livelihood of minorities, Government on Thursday approved an expenditure of Rs 3780 crore in 90 minority-dominated districts across the country to implement various developmental schemes in the course of the 11th Plan.

The new Centrally-sponsored scheme, called 'Multi- sectoral Development Programme' for the 90 identified minority-concentration districts, was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs here, an official spokesperson said.

The scheme, which aims at improving the socio-economic parameters and basic amenities in these areas to improve the quality of life of minorities, would be implemented by the local government, including panchayat institutions, agencies and scheduled area councils.

Absolutely critical infrastructure like connecting roads, basic health facilities, ICDS centres, skill development and marketing facilities and other economic opportunities would be implemented under the scheme.

A suitable monitoring system would also be put in place and an independent evaluation would made after two years to assess the need for any mid-term correction, she said.
