CBIC reorganizes National Assessment Centre

New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has re organised National Assessment Centres (NACs) reducing its number to 8 from 11 to promote specialization in the faceless assessment.

Each of the 8 NACs would now be convened by one Chief Commissioner and it will also bring uniformity in customs assessment of similar goods.

The changes would be effective from June 15 and and DG Systems would issue suitable advisory in this regard, CBIC said in an internal circular sent to field formations on Thursday.


The decision came after the Board reviewed the performance of Faceless Assessment and their functioning.

"These steps taken by CBIC such as merging of National Assessment Centres and assigning one convener to each NAC separately etc will help in further improving the performance of faceless assessment by way of expediting customs clearance as well as enhancing uniformity in assessment," Saurabh Agarwal, Tax Partner, EY said.
