Catching the counterfeit: Laser printing of labels to be made compulsory
NEW DELHI: In a move aimed at preventing sale of counterfeit products, particularly drinking water bottles, the NDA government wants to make laser printing of labels compulsory .

Moreover, the government has started the process of making letters on labels bigger to make them more consumerfriendly .

“I strongly feel that all labels in bottles should be laserprinted. Anyone can use wrappers of a reputed company to sell fake water bottles. The name of the manufacturer, manufacturing date and best before use date must be printed on bottles,“ consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan said.

Paswan said states should strictly ensure that the packaged water contains ISI mark.

Around 28% samples of packaged mineral water tested during 2014-15 were found to be violating the prescribed standards, government had told Parliament recently .

The government has already notified changes in rules from January this year, making it mandatory for manufacturers to display all necessary information for consumers in 40% of the total area of the label.
