Cabinet approves tax incentives for foreign film makers

Thai cabinet has approved a proposal to offer tax breaks to foreign film makers, to hold them back in the country,

BANGKOK: With an aim to hold back the foreign film makers visiting the country, the Thai cabinet has approved a proposal to offer tax breaks to them.

"The Cabinet has approved in principle to offer tax breaks or tax refunds for foreign film makers bringing their projects to Thailand, "Deputy Government Spokesman Wirintira Nathongborjaras said yesterday.

The rationale behind the approval is that the government may lose some tax revenue through these measures but the overall return will benefit the country as the cinema industry contributes to Thailand's national economic growth, she said.

These will be coordinated by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
