The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a significant allocation of Rs 8,800 crore to further strengthen the Skill India Programme, announced Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The funding aims to enhance the country's skill development initiatives and create more opportunities for the youth to acquire industry-relevant skills.

Under the Skill India Programme, three key schemes will be boosted - PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0), PM National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS), and Jan Shikshan Sansthan for Skill Development.

"It is a mission of PM Modi to create opportunities for the youths. Therefore, Rs 8,800-crore Skill India Programme has been approved and the focus will be on convergence and quality," said the union minister during the press breifing.

The PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0) focuses on demand-driven skill development, providing training and certification to youth in industry-relevant skills. This scheme will also emphasise short-term training, as well as upskilling and reskilling opportunities.

Meanwhile, the PM National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) will offer financial incentives to industries that engage apprentices, ensuring a smooth transition from school to work through hands-on experience. It will cover both the manufacturing and services sectors, in line with the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961.

The Jan Shikshan Sansthan for Skill Development, will provide community-based skill training to marginalized groups, with a particular focus on women and rural youth. This scheme aims to foster self-employment and local entrepreneurship, offering flexible training opportunities at the doorstep of beneficiaries.
