The Union Cabinet Friday approved projects worth around Rs Rs 14,461.9 crore which will result in extending Delhi's metro connectivity and establishing more government aided schools in the country.

An official statement said the Cabinet approved Rithala - Narela -Nathupur (Kundli) corridor of Delhi Metro's Phase - IV project consisting of 26.463 kilometres (kms) which will further enhance connectivity between the national capital and neighbouring Haryana. The corridor is scheduled to be completed in four years from the date of its sanction.

The completion cost of the project is Rs 6,230 crore and is to be implemented Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) the existing 50:50 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of the Government of India (GoI) and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), the statement said.


Officials said the trains running on this corridor will initially be of four passenger car composition but can be expanded with more demand.

In another decision, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under Civil and Defence sector across the country and expansion of one existing KV in Shivamogga, Karnataka. This decision will require an investment of Rs 5,872.08 crore spread over eight years from 2025-26 onwards. This includes capital expenditure around Rs 2,862.71 crore and operational expenditure of Rs 3,009.37 crore.

These will supplement the 1256 functional KVs, including three overseas in Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran.

CCEA also approved setting up of 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) in the uncovered districts of the country under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme (Central Sector Scheme).

The total estimated requirement of funds for establishment of the 28 NVs is Rs 2,359.82 crore spread over a period of five years from 2024-25 to 2028-29. This includes capital expenditure worth Rs 1,944.19 crore and operational expenditure of Rs 415.63 crore.
