Budget 2026: Major relief for cancer patients as FM Sitharaman waives import duty on 17 medicines

In a major relief for patients, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Union Budget that the government will exempt basic customs duty on 17 cancer-related drugs and medicines. She also announced that seven additional rare diseases will be added to the list of conditions eligible for import duty exemption on personal imports of drugs, medicines and food for special medical purposes used in their treatment.
