The Union government may unveil significant relief measures for LPG and PNG customers in the upcoming Budget 2025-26, reported ET NOW, citing sources.

According to the report, the oil ministry has sought an allocation of approximately Rs 17,000 crore for LPG subsidies.

These funds are expected to support the continuation of the existing subsidy scheme for Ujjwala beneficiaries beyond March 2025. Currently, nearly 10 crore Ujjwala customers receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG cylinder.

In addition to LPG relief, the ministry has proposed a new subsidy framework for PNG connections. This plan includes free PNG connections, waiving connection charges, and security deposits.

LPG/PNG to get cheaper in Budget 2025?

At present, consumers pay approximately Rs 7,000 for a new PNG connection. The scheme is likely to follow the Ujjwala model and aims to expand the city gas distribution network significantly.

If approved, these measures are expected to ease the financial burden on households and encourage a broader shift toward cleaner fuel usage in urban and rural areas.

Details of the final provisions will be confirmed in the Union Budget announcement. ET Online has not verified this information independently.
