According to the report, the oil ministry has sought an allocation of approximately Rs 17,000 crore for LPG subsidies.
These funds are expected to support the continuation of the existing subsidy scheme for Ujjwala beneficiaries beyond March 2025. Currently, nearly 10 crore Ujjwala customers receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG cylinder.
In addition to LPG relief, the ministry has proposed a new subsidy framework for PNG connections. This plan includes free PNG connections, waiving connection charges, and security deposits.

At present, consumers pay approximately Rs 7,000 for a new PNG connection. The scheme is likely to follow the Ujjwala model and aims to expand the city gas distribution network significantly. Details of the final provisions will be confirmed in the Union Budget announcement. ET Online has not verified this information independently.
