Blankets, bedsheets, towels vat-free in Jharkhand

The Jharkhand government has decided to do away with the four per cent VAT on items such as blankets, bedsheets, towels, napkins and handkerchief.

RANCHI: The Jharkhand government has decided to do away with the four per cent VAT on items such as blankets, bedsheets, towels, napkins and handkerchief.

Approving a proposal for exempting the four per cent VAT, the cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Madhu Koda last night, also gave its nod in reducing the 12.5 per cent VAT on plywood to four per cent.

To boost higher education, the cabinet approved creation of administrative, teaching and non-teaching posts for the Kolhan and Nilambar Pitambar universities, sanctioning each varsity Rs 4.34 crore for infrastructure development.

A proposal for an engineering college under Vinobha Bhave university was also sanctioned.

On the health front, the cabinet paved the way for private participation in setting up 105 community health centres and additional public health centres in the state.

For uranium mining, the cabinet okayed transfer of three plots at Mauja Mahuldiha in Sareikela-Kharswan district.

In another significant decision, the cabinet gave permission on to set up state child labour commission to deal with child labour.
