i am doing bca (final year). in today's world, i am really confused what to do further. please tell me in which field my future lies? if i want to remain in the computers field, what should i do further (i also face some difficulties in studying maths)? besides what are the other options? tell me my future as a girl. sherya mittal. there are no quick prescriptions available that may put you on the right career path. your future career depends upon the opportunities and you preparedness. first of all, be convinced that you wish to make a career in computers or else review your decisions before it becomes difficult later. if the desire to make a career in computers is very strong, then the preparedness has to be according to the job opportunities which are currently available. your seniors, teachers and people from the industry can help you with the right path. it is not necessary that you must study maths in order to improve your career prospects. there are avenues like multimedia, animations, web etc, where you can use your creative abilities. the future for any girl in india is only restricted by her thinking, otherwise nothing is impossible. i always wanted to be in sales and i have been doing good also. but in the past one year, i had to change three jobs. everytime i have been given unrealistic targets, which in spite of my hardwork and interest, i have not been able to achieve. companies these days seem to be more interested in short-term gains and relationship. they make it impossible to sustain if you are not able to achieve the target assigned. under such conditions what should i do to ensure reasonable tenure with a company and have the satisfaction of meeting the organisation's expectations? rakesh kumar tough situations require tough preparations and actions. as you grow in the profession, the target shall keep becoming tougher and tougher. instead of shying away from the challenge, try to analyse the reasons why you have not been successful . supervisors normally try to fix realistic targets. it is difficult to accept that in your previous three assignments your targets were unrealistic. be assertive. seek guidance. extend yourself. and if you find the going difficult review your decision of sticking to the sales line. i am currently placed in a reputed infotech company. i have an offer to join one of our overseas clients. one of my friends, who had accepted such an offer and is currently abroad, had a salary cut due to lack of projects with the company. though the chance to go abroad is lucrative, is it worth taking the risk at this point in time? i have recently got married. please advise. prashant mishra, delhi the old wisdom is still relevant today: a bird in hand is better than two in the bush. while the lure of going overseas is understandable, you may get plenty of such opportunities in future too. consult your wife and other members of your family to determine your risk-taking ability. if you are convinced that a foreign exposure would add value to your profile in spite of the bearable risk, go ahead and take the plunge. however, if the emotional and rational factors are creating enough doubts, than for the sake of others and yourself.
