Bharti Airtel’s Gopal Vittal elected COAI chairman

Gopal Vittal, managing director and chief executive officer (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel, has been elected as chairman of COAI.

NEW DELHI: Gopal Vittal, managing director and chief executive officer (India and South Asia) of Bharti Airtel, has been elected as chairman of COAI, an apex body representing seven leading mobile service operators, for 2016-17. Vittal, who has over 25 years of experience in telecom and fast moving consumer goods ( FMCG) industries, is taking over from Himanshu Kapania, managing director of Idea Cellular, India’s No. 3 telco.

Sunil Sood, managing director and chief executive officer of Vodafone India has been elected as the vice-chairman. COAI also designated its executive council for the new term at the meeting.
