Bengal needs to create entrepreneurship skills: Dilip Chenoy

KOLKATA: West Bengal would have to significantly enhance its expertise in skill development to create more job opportunities, managing director and chief executive officer of National Skill Development Corporation Dilip Chenoy said today.

"As per a World Bank study, West Bengal ranked low among states in terms of creating entrepreneurship," Chenoy said at an interaction organised by Merchant Chamber of Commerce and Industries here.

He said the trend would reverse since the gross capital formation of the state had turned positive in the last two financial years.

A lot of renewed economic activity could be witnessed of late which would result in rise of entrepreneurship in West Bengal, he said.

Formed with the mandate of developing skills in the country through PPP mode, NSDC has plans to train 150 million people by 2022.

Chenoy said in the country, around 10 million people would join the workforce age each year for the next two decades. India has few entrepreneurs at this stage of development.
