Bangalore gets A-1 city status

As per the A-1 status, the House Rent Allowance of these employees would double to 30 per cent of their basic salary.

BANGALORE: In a move that would benefit central and Karnataka government employees financially, Bangalore has been upgraded to an 'A-1' city.

The Department of Expenditure under the Union Ministry of Finance has issued a notification to this effect on September 21.

As per the A-1 status, the House Rent Allowance of these employees would double to 30 per cent of their basic salary.

Bangalore has become the sixth city to get this status, after Delhi, Mumbal, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Official sources said the enhanced HRA and other benefits for state governemnt employees would have to be cleared by the Karnataka Cabinet.
