Assocham setting up international arm
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India is setting up an international arm to handle its offices outside the country.
A visiting CEOs delegation of the chamber to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been offered a free land by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) which would mark the first overseas venture of the country’s oldest industry organisation. The new entity will be christened as ‘Assocham Overseas’.
A deal to that effect was proposed by HE Ahmed Mohammad Al Midfa, chairman, SCCI, during a meeting with the visiting delegation of Assocham.
The 30-member CEOs delegation was led by Anil Agrawal, head of the foreign trade committee, and K K Nohria, president of Assocham.
This would be in addition to the offer from SCCI in the new exposition centre in Sharjah wherein members of Assocham will be provided space for product display at concessional rates.
Sharjah, being one of the most developed of the seven emirates of the UAE, is already a major trading destination of Indian businessmen with its Sharjah Airport International Free (SAIF) Zone and the Hamriyah Free Zone connected directly with their international airport cargo centre and sea port, respectively.
The managing committee meeting of Assocham is scheduled for the end of this month when the details for setting up of the first overseas venture of the chamber will be discussed.
