NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reached out to the investor community and private sector on Tuesday, asking them to invest in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s pet projects and many existing sectors of the state economy where private sector participation is being opened up. Speaking at an interaction organised as part of the CII’s national conference, Kejriwal mentioned several avenues for private sector participation, including the ambitious free wi-fi scheme, Yamuna clean-up effort, water recycle and recharge plants and CSR-funded new schools and hospitals. Declaring that the Delhi government was working towards a five-year goal of putting Delhi in the list of "top 5 cities in the world known for "ease of doing businesses," Kejriwal said the role of the private sector remains key in this effort. "We want to encourage and promote business because that will generate employment in the private sector.

I would like to ask you to invest and set up projects in Delhi. If anybody asks you for money, come to me. Getting (your work done without paying money) is my responsibility," the former anti-corruption activist sought to assure those assembled at the conference. Among other specific ideas for industry partnership, he said, would include the upgradation of bus transportation within the city of Delhi, by getting a private sector role within the DTC. Pointing out that 50% of Delhi does not have sewer pipe lines and 20% of Delhi does not have water pipes, he felt these problems can be solved by using technology.
