A Virmani is new Chief Economic Advisor

Dr Arvind Virmani will be the new Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance.

NEW DELHI: Dr Arvind Virmani will be the new Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance. He will replace Ashok Lahiri who will move to the Asian Development Bank as Executive Director beginning July 01.

Dr Virmani is currently Principal Advisor in Planning Commission.

Appointment Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has cleared Dr Virmani's name for the coveted post in the Finance Ministry.

Virmani will report to Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
