Budget 2012: Direct transfer of subsidy for kerosene initiated, says FM

Direct transfer of subsidy for kerosene into bank accounts of beneficiaries has been initiated in Alwar district of Rajasthan and will be rolled out in other areas gradually, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while presenting the Budget 2012-13.

NEW DELHI: Direct transfer of subsidy for kerosene into bank accounts of beneficiaries has been initiated in Alwar district of Rajasthan and will be rolled out in other areas gradually, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while presenting the Budget 2012-13.


The Economic Survey tabled on Thursday said that of the major items in non-Plan revenue expenditure, it is the subsidies that are more or less policy driven and amenable to reforms. Given the rising trend in some of the subsidies, recent budgets have focused on comprehensive reforms without compromising on entitlements to the poor.
