The fishermen were arrested under Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act, 1981 and fish catch weighing 450 kg has been seized.

6 Sri Lankans arrested for fishing in Indian waters
CHENNAI: Six Sri Lankan nationals have been arrested by the Indian Coast Guard for allegedly fishing in Indian waters.


Coast Guard ship ICGS Vishwast spotted a Lankan boat 'Dulaj Lakmal' engaged in illegal fishing some 120 nautical miles northeast of Chennai coast, yesterday, a release said.

The six Lankan nationals on board were arrested under various sections of the Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act, 1981 and fish catch weighing 450 kg has been seized.

The arrested would be handed over to Tamil Nadu Police tomorrow, it said.
