23 lakh IT jobs by the end of 10th Plan

NEW DELHI: As per Nasscom estimates, 23.67 lakh jobs are estimated to be created for trained Information Technology personnel by the end of the Tenth Five Year Plan, Rajya Sabha was informed.
About 5.2 lakh jobs have been created by the IT industry while 14,916 jobs have been filled by the Department of Telecommunication during the last four years, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sanjay Paswan said in a written reply.
Asked about the number of IT professionals who were employed abroad over the last four years, Paswan said though no data is available, 50,000 such people are estimated to have been employed abroad as per Nasscom estimates.
Replying to another question, he said software exports grew by 24.24 per cent during first six months of 2002-03 against the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
