World Water Day: Jamshedpur to become 'zero sewerage discharge city'
JAMSHEDPUR: Jamshedpur, which ranked fourth on account of per capita water consumption, will be the first city of the country to become "zero sewerage discharge city" in a year's time.

Work is well in progress to achieve the milestone, Deputy General Manager (Water Management) Rabindra Kumar Singh of Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company Linited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel, said.

The initiative to recycle and reuse 100 per cent waste water (sewerage water) has already begun, he said.

Talking to PTI on the eve of " World Water Day", Singh said JUSCO had been making efforts to minimize water leakage and reuse the sewerage water after being recycled at its two treatment plants at Bistupur and Bara here.

The waste water treatment plant in operation is of 10 million litres per day capacity whereas work is in full swing to reuse waste water being recycled at its treatment plant at Bara in Agrico here, Singh said.

Bara treatment plant has the capacity to treat 30 million litres severage water per day, he said.
