UP govt writes to Centre to defer 10 SEZs

Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday said it has written to the Centre to defer clearance for 10 of the 27 Special Economic Zones proposed in the state.

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday said it has written to the Centre to defer clearance for 10 of the 27 Special Economic Zones proposed in the state as they did not fulfil the criteria laid down in the up SEZ policy 2006.

In a written reply to a question by Samajwadi Party member Naresh Agarwal, Chief Minister Mayawati said the government has written to the Centre only to defer the proposals and not cancel them.

She said that in all 27 proposals for SEZs had been sent to the Centre for approval by the previous SP regime.

She also said that at present only two SEZs were optive in the state while one high-tech city was partially operative.
