MARTHANDAM, TAMIL NADU: The Centre will take up nine road projects in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore, Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari said today.

These include Karaikudi-Pattukottai-Tanjavur, Salem-Uthankarai-Tirupur, Tiruvannamalai-Kallakurichi, he said during the foundation stone laying function for four national highways projects totalling 105 km here.

His deputy Pon Radhakrishnan was also present on the occasion.

The minister said he had already sanctioned 331 km of road projects under the said nine proposals.

Further, as part of job creation, the focus should be more on infrastructure, he said.

"If we want to create more jobs, we have to concentrate more on our infrastructure. And four important things which are related with development are water, power, transport and communications," he said adding that the Narendra Modi government was focussing in this direction.
