Tamil Nadu govt proposed to construct as many as 121 bridges at a cost of Rs 235 cr to link various parts of the state and help ensure movement of people and goods.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government proposed to construct as many as 121 bridges at a cost of Rs 235 crore to link various parts of the state and help ensure movement of people and goods.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said the bridges would be constructed in 27 districts.

Jayalalithaa had earlier directed construction of overbridges, subways and walkways in Chennai and suburbs at a cost of Rs 340.68 crore this year.

Besides, the Chief Minister had earmarked Rs 2,262 crore to improve road infrastructure and it would be taken up under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme.

Attaching more importance to construction of new roads so as to improve the rural economy, the government had last year ordered construction of new roads, railway overbridges and maintenance of bridges at a cost of Rs 3,793 crore.
