NEW DELHI: Suez Environnement, a French multinational firm, today said it has won three contracts worth 61 million euros for works related to water distribution system and construction of drinking water plant in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore.

"In Mumbai, one project is to improve water distribution services for 12.5 million people. A second, in Pune, is to build and operate a drinking water plant for 2.5 million residents. And two new wastewater treatment plants are due to open in Bangalore," the company said in a statement.

Commenting on the order, company's Deputy CEO in charge of the international division Marie-Ange Debon said: "While maintaining our solid position in wastewater treatment and drinking water production, we are boosting our presence in India through our new comprehensive service contract in Mumbai."

The Mumbai project, awarded by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, is to improve drinking water distribution of the city, Suez said, adding it is being executed "under a five-year contract worth 31 million euros in revenue".

The company won its second contract worth 19 million euros through a subsidiary Degremont from Pune Municipal Corporation. The project is to design, build, operate and maintain a drinking water plant for the 25 lakh people of Pune and is supported by the local and national government as part of the JNNURM development programme.

The company also won a contract worth 11 million euros from the Water Supply and Sewage Board of Bangalore for designing and operating two wastewater treatment plants.

Suez Environnement is present in India for over three decades through its subsidiary Degremont India. Degremont has designed and built over 150 water treatment plants across the country (and operates 18 of them) that supply 5 billion liters of potable water everyday.
