Soma Enterprise Ltd to design and construct 54 railway bridges

Infrastructure company Soma Enterprise Ltd announced that it has been awarded the contract worth Rs 605.15 crore for designing and construction of 54 major bridges on Western Freight Corridor.

NEW DELHI: Infrastructure company Soma Enterprise Ltd announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded the contract worth Rs 605.15 crore for designing and construction of 54 major bridges on Western Freight Corridor.

The construction project between Vaitarna and Utran in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat is scheduled to be completed in 30 months.

The two freight corridors, eastern and western, are being constructed by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd(DFCCIL)��� a special purpose vehicle (SPV) created by ministry of railways to mobilize financial resources and undertake planning and development of dedicated freight corridors.

The Eastern Corridor comprising of 1279 km runs from Sonnagar in Bihar to Ludhiana in Punjab.

The Western Corridor comprising of 1483 km of a connects Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) in Mumbai to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.

The traffic on the Western Corridor comprises of container movement from JNPT in Mumbai and Pipavav, Mundra and Kandla ports in Gujarat. Besides container, other commodities to be transported are fertilizers, food grains, coal, steel and cement.
