Soma completes Porbandar-Bhiladi stretch of E-W corridor

Soma Enterprise Ltd says it has completed and handed over the Rs 193 crore Porbandar-Bhiladi project on NH-8B to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

NEW DELHI: Infrastructure developer Soma Enterprise Ltd said it has completed and handed over the Rs 193 crore Porbandar-Bhiladi project on NH-8B, ahead of its schedule, to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The Porbandar-Bhiladi was the first stretch on the Silchar-Porbandar (East-West) section of the North-South-East-West corridor.

The work on the project commenced in March 2005 and was slated to complete within 33 months by November 2007.

"We are proud to have repeated history by completing yet another project ahead of schedule. This was our first highway project in Gujarat and we deployed additional resources in order to ensure its timely completion," Soma Enterprise Director Ankineedu Maganti said in a statement.

The project included four laning of the 50.5 km stretch on NH-8B from 2 km to 52.5 km. It also included construction of a bypass (8 km), service road on each side (18 km), 42 two-lane bridges, eight underpasses and 20 bus bays.

"With the completion of the project, there has been significant improvement in road connectivity benefiting cargo movement considerably as this stretch connects Porbandar Port to the rest of the E-W corridor," Maganti added.
