Rs 1400 cr for irrigation projects in Nagpur division : Thorat
The Maharashtra Government this year has allocated Rs 1,400 crore for completion of pending irrigation projects in the Nagpur division during the fiscal year 2008-09.
Speaking at the Republic Day parade function at Kasturchand Park ground, Thorat who took salute of the combined parade said that the State Government has released funds to speed up the completion of irrigation projects.
Due to scanty rainfalls, the crop yield has decreased this year, he said.
Talking about the developmental activities, Thorat said proposals for the 22 projects worth Rs 6,000 crore were received under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urbal Renewal Mission (JNURM) and 18 such projects were approved.
A sum of Rs 170 crore has been received as first instalment in JNURM, Thorat, who is also the Nagpur district Gaurdian Minister, said.
On the energy scenario, Thorat said work on the proposed 1,000 mw super thermal power station of NTPC costing Rs 5,700 crore at Mouda near here has already commenced which will help ease the electricity crisis.
Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Vilas Muttemwar, MLC S Q Zama, Divisional Commissioner A N Limaye, District Collector Praveen Darade, Commissioner of Police, Praveen Dixit and others were present at the function.
