Road face-lift cleared for six states

TR Baalu has approved road improvement works in Gujarat, Chattisgarh, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra.

NEW DELHI: The union minister of shipping, road transport and highways, TR Baalu has approved road improvement works in Gujarat, Chattisgarh, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra. More than Rs 1,780 has been sanctioned for the purpose.
A sum of Rs 128 crore has been sanctioned for 47 road improvement works in Maharashtra at various highways stretches in different parts of the state. In Gujarat, Rs 621.08 has been sanctioned for strengthening 300 km on the Dwarka-Porbandar-Somnath section on NH8. An amount of Rs 486.80 lakh has been approved for strengthening of 92 km on NH64 in Punjab on the Patiala-Sangrur-Bhatinda stretch.
In Haryana, Rs 320.98 lakh has been set aside for widening and two-laning NH71 from 257 km to 258.5 km. Pavements will also be constructed for the stretch.
Mr Baalu has also approved a sum of Rs 217.41 lakh for the work of improvement of riding quality on 800 km of NH31 in West Bengal.

Apart from this work on existing stretches, Mr Baalu has approved an amount of Rs 8.89 lakh for a feasibility study and detailed engineering report for the construction of a bypass on NH217 in Baghbhara in Chattisgarh.
