Revival of 26 central PSUs approved

The government said it has approved proposals to revive 26 central public sector entreprises at a total cost of Rs 8,263 crore.

NEW DELHI: The government said it has approved proposals to revive 26 central public sector entreprises at a total cost of Rs 8,263 crore.

The Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Entreprises (BRPSE) had recommended 43 CPSEs to the government for revival, of which approval has been given to revive 26 units, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Entreprises Sontosh Mohan Dev told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The revival of these 26 entreprises would entail an assistance of Rs 8,263.68 crore from the government. Of this, the cash component would be to the tune of Rs 1,941.3 crore and non-cash assistance Rs 6,322.38 crore, he said.

The government has also decided 'in-principle' to examine the possibility of reviving Fertiliser Corporation of India Ltd and Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation Ltd, subject to availability of gas.

He said proposals to revive Biecco Lawrie Ltd and Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd were awaiting consideration of BRPSE, which is likely to consider these cases by next month.

Some of the units whose revival has been approved by the government include National Textile Corporation and its subsidiaries, HMT Bearings Ltd, Cement Corporation of India, Fertiliser and Chemicals Travancore Ltd, Eastern Coal Fields, Hindustan Copper Ltd and Andrew Yule and Co Ltd.
