Rangasamy announces plan to set up an IT park in Puducherry
Park would be come up making use of the vacant site available in the truck terminal, said Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy.
Park would be come up making use of the vacant site available in the truck terminal, he said.
Replying to the criticism by the opposition AIADMK that the government was dragging its feet to bring to an end the current strike by lorry owners bringing goods from other states into Puducherry to mark their protest against lack of amenities in the truck terminal, Rangasamy said full fledged facilities were made available in the terminal.
"We have spent hefty sums for the infrastructure. But the truck owners scarcely used the site and the government has decided to make use of the unused portion in the site to establish an IT park", he said.
Stating that the government would ensure that truck owners had no difficulty to park their vehicles in alternative sites, he said that IT Park was important in the context of ensuring jobs for the graduates passing out of the engineering colleges. "We also intend to ensure that Puducherry became an IT hub with investments by private players", he said.
Earlier drawing the attention of the government to the current strike by lorry owners, AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbalagan wanted the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that demands of the lorry drivers and workers engaged in loading and unloading of cargo were conceded.
