Punjab will enact SEZ Act: minister

Punjab govt will enact an SEZ Act to facilitate and expedite implementation of Economic Zones.

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government would soon enact an SEZ Act to facilitate and expedite implementation of Special Economic Zones, Industries Minister Manoranjan Kalia said on Sunday.

The Centre has already notified an IT SEZ at Mohali to be implemented by Quarkcity India Private Limited with investment of Rs 500 crore.

Kalia said another SEZ for the pharmaceutical industry has been notified at Mohali, developed by Ranbaxy Laboratories with investment of Rs 265 crore.

In addition, Centre has granted formal approval for four SEZ projects besides in principle-approval for seven projects in Punjab. Three more projects have been recommended by the state government to the Centre for approval, he said.
