The main objective of Punjab Industrial Infrastructure Maintenance Act, which is at the drafting stage presently, will be to involve the industry in maintaining facilities including roads, water supply, sewerage system, street light and common effluent treatment plant.
"Once this law comes into shape, industrialists in each focal point of the state can float a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), with their representatives and then they can collect money in the shape of taxes from their fellow industry people for maintaining their areas," V K Janjua, Director and Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce in Punjab, told PTI here.
He said at present the infrastructure is maintained by the state-owned Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) for five years and the job is transferred to the local municipal corporations after that.
These bodies collect taxes from the industry and maintain these areas. But the industry complain of improper maintenance, Janjua said.
"Industry representatives may also be able to outsource this job to some other organisation under this Act," said another official of the department.
After drafting the law, it would be sent to concerned departments, council of ministers, state cabinet and the industry for their feedback, an official said.
