CHENNAI: With a view to decongesting roads in Chennai city and its suburbs, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today allocated various projects including road-over-bridges and skywalk in and around the metropolis estimated at Rs 109 crore.

The projects include a Rs 40 crore flyover at Koyambedu, a bustling area from where inter and intra-state buses are operated, Rs 20 crore skywalk connecting Central, Park railway station and the Government General Hospital located there and a bridge across river Cooum at Rs eight crore, a state government release here said.

Besides, similar projects such as flyover, sub-ways and expansion of existing facilities are also covered under the Rs 109 crore allocation, the release said adding the measures will help in easing the traffic flow and ensure smoother passage to desired destinations.

Traffic snarls and long queues of vehicles on the arterial roads of Chennai have become common sight with speedening up of Metro Rail-related works which have resulted in traffic diversions and more roads being declared one-way.
