PPP model to improve urban infrastructure
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) holds key to improve infrastructural facilities in urban areas, an official said on Saturday.
There is a shortage of resources to meet the increasing demand for drinking water and better urban transport. The projected investment required are huge and budget support alone will not be sufficient, M Ramachandran, Secretary, Urban Development said.
The only possible option is PPP model, he said addressing a round-table organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Kerala Chapter.
There is a wrong notion that PPP means privatisation, but the truth is that it is participation of both the stakeholders - the public and private, he added.
Besides Ramachandran, Municipal Corporation Mayors of Kochi, Kozhikode and officials of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and representatives of CII participated in the round table on PPP.
In his welcome address, Umang Patodia, Chairman, CII Kerala, said that infrastructure would be a passport to success as India is progressing towards becoming one of the largest economies in the world.
