Nirupam questions Modi's decision to allocate land to MPSEZ
Senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Friday questioned Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's decision to allocate 37,000 hectares of land to Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Limited (MPSEZ) at a throwaway price.
The land was given to MPSEZ at fifty paise per yard, while Mundra has been collecting Rs 1200 per yard from the buyers willing to set up unit on this land, Nirupam told reporters here.
Through this Mundra had made a profit of Rs 30,000 crores, he claimed and said it needs to be investigated by an appropriate authority.
Mundra's IPO for setting up of SEZ on this land opened yesterday.
The leasing of this land to Mundra is one of the many "misdeeds" of the Gujarat government and involves huge amount of corruption, Nirupam alleged.
Modi government has failed in creating any competitive infrastructure in the state for information technology and biotechnology sectors like other states, Nirupam said.
The Congress leader further said Modi's claim that Gujarat is a power surplus state was hollow as the gap between demand and supply is 3500 MW.
Even the crime rate is highest in the state as about 6,000 cases of murder took place during Modi's tenure, he claimed.
Now Sadhus have come out against Modi which is a significant development in Gujarat where Modi is talking of Hindutva.
