GUWAHATI: State-owned National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited ( NHIDCL) on Friday said 19 highway projects in Assam entailing an investment of Rs 10,000 crore will be completed by 2020. Land acquisition and forest clearances for the projects are being facilitated, it said.

NHIDCL managing director Anand Kumar said the company has awarded 10 such projects, which are likely to be completed in the next 36 months.

“Four roads and highway projects would be awarded by December this year since their awards process is in the final stages, and for remaining five, the detailed project report would be completed by late next year so the construction work for them begins by March 2017,” said Kumar.

He said the pace for land acquisition and forest clearances in the northeast has picked up and hoped that eventually the thorny issue would be resolved in the interest of all stakeholders, including the people of Assam.

Kumar said that NHIDCL, which is under the transport ministry, is keen on engaging local contractors for road and highway projects in the northeast.
