MCD to invest Rs 6.8 crore for improving major Delhi roads

MCD will take up upgrading and strengthening of major roads in New Delhi with an investment of Rs 6.8 crore.

NEW DELHI: Keeping the 2010 Commonwealth Games in mind, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will take up upgrading and strengthening of major city roads with an investment of Rs 6.8 crore.

During the current financial year, the civic body has created a special Escrow account for urban and rural roads and has made budget provision of Rs 75 crore and Rs 25 crore respectively, MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said on Monday.

The work on these projects has been initiated, he said.

According to Gupta, improvement and strengthening of important city roads will be taken up in a phased manner at an expenditure of Rs 6.8 crore.

An important project is improvement and strengthening of Indira Gandhi National Open University Road from Mehrauli, Badarpur Road crossing to Maidan Gari Village. It will cost Rs 3.67 crore and completed within nine months, he said.

Other roads which will be improved and strengthened include Green Park Market Road (Rs 26.79 lakh), Ch Harsukh Dev Marg from Africa Avenue to Green Park Arjun Nagar (Rs 41.93 lakh), Ch Dilip Singh Marg from Aurbindo Marg to Asiad Village Complex (Rs 16.74 lakh) and roads in Vasant Kunj, Malviya Nagar, Sarvpriya Vihar and Savodhaya Enclave.
