Maha names Bandra Worli sealink as Rajiv Gandhi Sealink

Maharashtra Government issued a resolution naming the newly opened Bandra Worli sea bridge as Rajiv Gandhi Sealink. Bringing an end to the furore over naming the bridge.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Government on Wednesday issued a resolution naming the newly opened Bandra Worli sea bridge as Rajiv Gandhi Sealink.

Bringing an end to the furore over naming the bridge, the Public Works Department today issued a resolution naming the sealink after the former Prime Minister.

The Rajiv Gandhi bridge will apply to the existing Bandra Worli sealink and the proposed sealinks between Versova to Nariman Point.

Sealinks have been proposed between Versova and Bandra, Bandra to Worli, Worli to Haji Ali and Haji Ali to Nariman Point.

Following the inauguration of the bridge, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan had said the bridge would be named after Rajiv Gandhi. Shiv Sena activists had carried out protests across the city demanding that the sealink be named after Veer Savarkar.
