L&T, Man, Chiripal keen to set up SEZs in Gujarat

While L&T plans to come up with an IT zone near Vadodara, Man Industries is mulling to put up an engineering SEZ at Anjar in Kutch. Ahmedabad-based Chiripal group too has filed an application with the state government to set up an IT zone at Koba in Gandhinagar.
The government has received three more applications, one each by Rajkot Engineering Association (REA), Kandla Port Trust for port-based multi-product SEZ, which has already got the necessary clearances from the Centre and by PR SEZ for setting up a pharma SEZ near Valsad.
The pharma project envisages an investment of Rs 11,650 crore. Rajkot Engineering Association plans to set up a SEZ in Devgam near Rajkot. Sources say that the SEZ will attract investments worth Rs 800 crore.
REA had already signed an MoU during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit, which saw pledged investments to the tune of Rs 1,70,889 crore in 28 SEZ projects. L&T also plans to develop two SEZs close to its manufacturing facilities. While one SEZ will be located at Vadodara for engineering services, the other will be built after its shipbuilding plant gets finalised, say sources.
